Purpose

The OG-MRP UKCS Heavy Oil Matters portal has been designed and built to be an online resource for the UKCS heavy oil community and the premier place for communication on all aspects of the development of UKCS heavy oil discoveries. 4.2 billion barrels of viscous oil (<18°API) has been discovered so far on the UKCS yet this remains undeveloped. In addition it is estimated that there are 2 to 3 billion barrels yet to find. Developing these heavy oil accumulations presents unique challenges. It is desirable for stakeholders (as far as is possible) to work together for a common solution.

Launched to coincide with the DTI UKCS Heavy Oil Recovery Seminar 2004, this site is designed to facilitate interactive knowledge sharing, discussion and debate. Users can read through the Learning Zone for a detailed look at Heavy Oil in the context of the UKCS, browse and download UKCS heavy oil related papers from various conferences and seminars worldwide in the Library, participate in Forums and view details of past and future Events.

Feedback

OG-MRP UKCS Heavy Oil Matters is a dynamic and interactive environment where the main aim is to get people talking to each other, and sharing their ideas and experiences. This is especially true if you have a stakeholder interest in UKCS heavy oil; whether via possession of a traditional or more recent ?Promote? licence, appropriate technology or just relevant expertise. For this open community to work, we need people to drive the discussion; to be at the heart of the community. Even if you have no experience with UKCS heavy oil, use the materials on the site to learn and then ask questions in the Forums to take things further. The more people that take part, the more the community will grow and the more the community will benefit.

The site has a Forum to facilitate discussion on all aspects of heavy oil in the UKCS. Even the main informational piece on the site, the ?Learning Zone?, is open to comment, criticism and questions.
